Quick Pick Ups

Hair Accessories

Tonight I went to Wal-Mart on a search for some Banana Clips for my hair and ended up with more hair accessories! I couldn't help myself! All I have is plain old black head bands so I thought I'd jazz things up a bit!

Goody had some awesome Limited Edition items so I just had to take a few. I also needed some new mascara and my fave gold eye shadow and a few more items. Check out the pics:

Liquid Liner, Mascara, Gold Eye Shadow, Lip Gloss
Black, Brown, and White Banana Clips
Satin Head Band with stones and beads
Triple-Banded Head Bands
Tribal Glam Ponytail Holder
Pink Desert Rose Hair Clip
Fiesta Ponytail Holder. I'll clip it up as a flower though.

Renpure Organics

I went to the grocery store today...Winn Dixie to be exact, and just strolled down the hair products isle and came across this conditioner that I've never heard of. This conditioner is called Renpure Organics and it's made with 100% certified organic extracts.

This conditioner was priced at $6.99...and it also comes with a Mail-in-Rebate. I haven't tried it yet but I'd say around Tuesday or Wednesday I will. I'll definitely post about my experience with this conditioner. One plus though is that it has an awesome smell to it! I usually just use Giovanni, Herbal Essence Hello Hydration, and my all time fave Aussie Moist, so I just thought it was time to try something new and different.

Denman Brush

While going through my blog roll today I found an interesting post over at curlynikki.com on Modifying your Denman Brush. She posted a video on how to modify your denman brush so that it can be easier on your hair. I own the Denman D3 which has 7 rows so I took out 3 rows. When I have a wash day later this week I will definitely let you all know how it works!

Here is a direct link to the post with the video included:

Braid Out

This is my second time ever doing a braid out mainly because it takes forever lol. As you guys know for the past 2 or 3 days I had a blow out. Last night I put plaits on dry hair. First I put olive oil and jojoba oil on my dry fro lol then on each section I used Carol's Daughter Hair Butter. The only time I used water was for the ends of my hair.

My plaits :)

I pinned the sides back

I think it turned out pretty cool :) When I'm bored again I will definitely do this style again!

Transitioners

I have some family members and friends who are transitioning right now from relaxers to their natural hair. I'm sure they have many questions and don't even know where to start! So here I am guys! lol  Here are a few tips

~Depending on the type of style you have, deep condition your hair ONCE a week for 30 minutes to an hour with a plastic cap. You can sit under a hooded dryer or wrap a warm towel around head.

~Be tender with your hair & when you get frustrated with it, put it in a protective style & leave it alone! it'll be good for you & your hair. -Cris @ http://international-baby.blogspot.com

~Cater to your hair type ... trying products/styles/regimins& routines for naturals&transitioners with different hair types is NOT really going to help. work with YOUR hair and pay attention to what it likes, wants, needs!! -Cris

~Never towel dry hair, it leaves your hair frizzy.

~Be sure to purchase a satin bonnet, or scarf, or satin pillow case.

~Don't forget to get a wide tooth comb or denman brush to make combing and detangling easier.

~Shampoo hair once or twice a month depending on build on and product usage, shampoo stripes the
moisture from your hair.

~Stay away from flat ironing hair or any excessive heat.

~If your styling your hair once a week be sure to condition before styling and follow up with a leave in conditioner.

~Invest in hair oils like olive oil, coconut oil, jojoba oil, etc. there are tons to choose from! This is critical because the hair is most fragile at this stage. Be sure to oil your scalp and ends.

~Shea Butter is an awesome purchase as well.

~Pay attention to the ingredients in products you buy, toxic ingredients could be detrimental to your scalp and hair.

~Research hairstyles! You can wear braids, sew ins, do roller sets, bantu knots, twists, wigs, etc. You don't have to wear pony tails or resort to flat ironing your hair.

~Youtube and hair forums and blogs on transitioning are your friends!

I really hope I touched basis on the most important things to remember! If I have not PLEASE ask questions so I can address them and if I left anything out please add! I hope this helps somebody! These tips also work for ladies with relaxers!

Thank you Cris over at http://international-baby.blogspot.com for the extra tips!! Make sure you guys check out her awesome blog!

It shrank!

I took pictures today before I went to class of how my hair looked after last night. It shrank a lot compared to when I first did it but I like it :) I felt different...but in a good way...Added some earrings and a little shadow and there ya have it! I used a pic but I didn't comb all the way through my hair (would have been painful)

Blown Out

Tonight I washed my hair and decided to blow it out. I have never had my hair out in a fro so I just felt like doing it tonight. Here is what my hair looks like after I wash it with nothing on it...

BEFORE

Before I used the blow dryer I used Kinky Curly leave-in conditioner, then used olive oil and jojoba oil and  John Frieda's heat defeat. I also put the blow dryer on low heat. Here are the results...it's 12 am so I didn't fix it up. I couldn't stop laughing because I never imagined myself with a fro! One thing I do wish I had was a blow dryer with the comb...this was tough...especially since my hair is very tightly curled. I'll fix it up later. Tell me what you all think

How often do you wear heels?

Still blogging...lol I just read a blog post from a blog I follow called What Women Want and the blogger did a post on Stilettos being bad for your health. So I wanted to know how often you all wear high heels? Me personally, I wear them once or twice a week. I only wear heels when it's a special date (which I haven't had lol) or if I'm going out. I never wear heels to school because I like to be comfortable on campus. If you'd like to read to entire post check her out at: http://ilovewhatwomenwant.blogspot.com/2010/04/stilettos-are-bad-for-your-health.html

Sacramento Kings SB Nike

What ever happened to me posting sneakers! AHHHH! It's been a minute since I last purchased sneakers so I'm WAY overdue for a new pair! As you can see I still haven't started my project but I'm about to get to it lol JUST ONE MORE POST! These SBs (skate boarding) by Nike won't be released until May 2010. I have like 2 pair of mid sneakers...I'm a low sneaker kind of girl lol but I LOVE these colors!

Not to mention I used to be a HUGE Kings fan back when the team had Mike Bibby, Chris Webber, Peja Stojakovic, Hedo Turkoglu, and you know the rest! lol Hopefully my local skate boarding shop Undercover will have these in! For a direct link to where I saw these shoes check out: http://n-sb.org/index.php/2010/03/30/sacramento-kings-sb-nike-dunk-hi/ What do you all think?

Blue Suede

Right now I should be doing many projects for school but guess what has my attention? Shoes of course lol! I'm on this website called heels.com and I just wish I had some blue suede heels in my life! This shoe is called the Valora Heel by LAMB and they are priced at $299. Unfortunately they won't be in my closet or on my feet for that matter...

BUT they will be on my blog! If you'd like more views of the picture just click this direct link: http://www.heels.com/womens-shoes/valora-heel-blue-suede.html Don't forget to tell me what you all think! OH yeah...if I posted every shoe that I loved off that website um...I'd be here all day lol

An idea

I've had this particular idea that I have been going back and forth with in my mind for months! At first I didn't want to do it but then again I thought about it and I think I'm going to do it. At the end of the month I have to present a Marketing Plan to my class and this is the perfect time for me to present my idea...The only clue I'm giving is that it involves naturally curly hair. It's something I've grown passionate about and I'm excited! Once it's finished and I do more research and everything I will let you all know what it really is :) My only concern is I hope I get to do it first!!

What Happened?

The other night I was having a nice conversation on the phone with this guy that I used to like. While talking to him I started to reminisce about the old fun times we used to have. When I think back to the first day we met, he left me with the best first impression...he made me laugh! We used to go out on dates all the time, we laughed, I met important family members, he went to my graduation, met some of my closest family members and we had a crazy connection. It's like we already knew each other but we could never figure out how! Long story short...after all those good moments and "relationship" type events we never became a couple. I'm still trying to figure out what happened...

It's over now

It's now Sunday and school starts back on Monday. BoooOOOoo! lol I actually enjoyed my Spring Break this year. I was hardly home during the whole week! Let's see....I went skating with my family, went to the beach, went swimming at the pool, went out to some night clubs, went shopping, and had a blast with everything. So now it's back to reality...sigh* I would go into details but I'm sure nobody wants to read an essay lol. I hope you all enjoyed your week and weekends!

Spring Break

My Spring Break officially began for me Friday! I have nothing special planned as of right now. One thing I do know is that I'll never go to a BET Spring Bling again...blank stare*. It should be an interesting break...each year I always have some little story to tell. If you all are on Spring Break this time as well, enjoy it, and please be safe!

Just a thought...

As I was doing an assignment for class on how Nike reorganized their women's fitness segment and defined their actual target market, I thought about hair products. Random right? lol. Before I ever did  research and experimented with hair products on my natural hair I never cared for using products like Herbal Essences, Suave, Aussie, and all the others that I now use. I always used products marketed to women of color. I asked myself WHY!?!

It's not that I didn't want to try these brands it was just the way the products have always been advertised. In magazines, television ads, and even their websites I've never seen a diverse group of women. I never see Black women, or Asian women or any other ethnicity in any ads from these companies. Now correct me if I'm wrong and PLEASE show me an ad with someone I can relate to. The only company I've ever seen advertise with different ethnicity's is from Garnier.

I've always thought these products were just for white women with the long straight hair. I never tried their products because I didn't think it was made for me...a woman of color. Herbal Essence states on their website that they want to ensure an excellent experience for women around the world so why don't they show the various types of women from around the world that use their products? Hmmm...Just a thought...
