Just a thought...

As I was doing an assignment for class on how Nike reorganized their women's fitness segment and defined their actual target market, I thought about hair products. Random right? lol. Before I ever did  research and experimented with hair products on my natural hair I never cared for using products like Herbal Essences, Suave, Aussie, and all the others that I now use. I always used products marketed to women of color. I asked myself WHY!?!

It's not that I didn't want to try these brands it was just the way the products have always been advertised. In magazines, television ads, and even their websites I've never seen a diverse group of women. I never see Black women, or Asian women or any other ethnicity in any ads from these companies. Now correct me if I'm wrong and PLEASE show me an ad with someone I can relate to. The only company I've ever seen advertise with different ethnicity's is from Garnier.

I've always thought these products were just for white women with the long straight hair. I never tried their products because I didn't think it was made for me...a woman of color. Herbal Essence states on their website that they want to ensure an excellent experience for women around the world so why don't they show the various types of women from around the world that use their products? Hmmm...Just a thought...

i agree! ... but nonetheless, since discovering HEHH .. my hair has never been the same. LOL. i don't feel like i'm battling my new growth any more. a lot of products tailored towards 'women of color' kind of "tame" our hair .. idk. i used Suave when i was younger so that was no big deal. and i started using V05 as an accident [ cheap, easy access, needed shampoo haha ] & i ended up loving it. that's when i figured that - it's just hair! lots of products can work for or against your hair no matter what the ads say. BUT I DO AGREE, Herbal Essences needs to get some naturals in their ads -- i'm sure we account for a good percentage of sales! :)

I agree. That's why I never used Vo5 until now. you never see the commercials or advertisements targeting other ethnicities. I can say that Garnier & Pantene does target Women of Color, but I don't see many others who do.
